What to do in Sauze d'Oulx
Sauze d’Oulx is located at 1,505 meters altitude in the Upper Susa Valley and is one of the main resorts in the international ski area of Vialattea. The town offers a wide range of sports and recreational activities throughout the year, thanks to the terrain that ranges from coniferous forests to high-altitude ridges.
The Winter Season
The Via Lattea ski area offers about 400 km of interconnected slopes, allowing you to ski to the resorts of Sestriere, Sansicario, Cesana, Claviere and Montgenèvre (France).
The main activities include:
-
Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding: The slopes are varied and suitable for every skill level, from beginner slopes for newcomers to technical runs for experts.
-
Ski Touring and Off-Piste: For experienced skiers, the area offers numerous ungroomed routes through the forests, to be tackled with the necessary safety equipment.
-
Snowshoeing and Hiking: There are marked trails for those who want to walk on snow with snowshoes, crossing quiet wooded areas away from the ski lifts.
Services and Rentals For those who don’t have their own equipment, the town offers numerous specialized centers for renting skis, snowboards, boots and helmets. Many of these rental shops are located in the immediate vicinity of Casa Sofia, allowing you to pick up and return equipment within a few minutes’ walk, without needing to use the car. There are also several ski schools that offer individual or group lessons for adults and children.
The Summer Season
In summer, Sauze d’Oulx transforms into a destination for cycling and hiking. The main ski lifts remain open during the summer months to allow access for pedestrians and cyclists.
The main activities include:
-
Mountain Biking and Downhill: The resort is part of Alpi Bike Resort. The trails are classified by difficulty and include flow trails, enduro routes and downhill tracks for fast descents.
-
E-Bikes (Electric-assist bicycles): This is a rapidly growing activity that allows you to cover greater distances and tackle significant elevation gains. You can reach scenic viewpoints like Colle dell’Assietta or Rifugio Ciao Pais with less physical effort.
-
Trekking: The trail network is extensive and well-marked. You can take short walks to alpine villages or full-day hikes within the Gran Bosco di Salbertrand Natural Park, a protected area of great naturalistic interest.
Specialized shops are also available in the town center for summer activities. You can rent traditional mountain bikes, latest-generation e-bikes and downhill protection sets within walking distance of the property. This allows you to easily organize your sports days, starting directly from the town center toward the trails.
